About the area

Kaya is an unspoilt mountain village and is, in itself, a tourist attraction. Its population was a mixture of Turkish and Greek until the 1920s when political differences between the two countries governments resulted in a population exchange. All Greeks in Turkey returned to Greece and vice versa. From then the once- Greek homes are now in ruins. Some people mistakenly call Kaya the Ghost Town but this is inaccurate as there is still a thriving Turkish community there.
There is a hotel in the centre of the village where you are welcome to use the swimming pool and there are
bars, cafis and restaurants where you can get reasonably priced meals and meet the local people. The village is 15 minutes by car from both Fethiye & Olu Deniz beach, the most beautiful & famous beaches in Turkey. There is a regular mini-bus service from the village square to these places as well as to Hisaronu, a bustling village with plenty of restaurants & nightlife 10 minutes away. It is surrounded by mountains & forests, wonderful for walks & picnics.
